Requirements

Specific aims:

  • To prevent impoverished young people from dropping out of school, thus helping to close the gap between rich and poor in our country.
  • To encourage the said young people to stay in school and finish their junior- and senior high-school education so that they can have better access to opportunities.

These scholarships constitute all-round support so that young people can finish senior high school and/or a bachelor’s degree or technical-studies program in government or state-subsidized educational institutions (1). In Fundación Andar our aim is that scholarship recipients should finish the whole junior- or senior-high-school cycle so as to maximize the impact of the scholarship they have received. Scholarships for senior-high-school education last for 3 years, and those for higher education 4 years.

The scholarships consist of monetary support to cover the following needs:

- Transportation

- School equipment and study materials

- Lodging and upkeep

For his/her part, the scholarship recipient undertakes to:

  • Maintain a grade average of 8.0 for each evaluation period
  • Maintain an 80% attendance record and pass all his/her subjects, in both mid-course and final examinations, during the period covered by his/her scholarship.
  • Furnish the Foundation both with proof of enrollment in each school year and with his/her grades, at the intervals established in the school where s/he is studying.

At the end of the school year, those scholarship recipients who have punctually complied with the Foundation’s guidelines will have their scholarships automatically renewed; failing this, their case will be discussed in order to decide whether or not to renew their scholarship.

(1) Applicants who study -or wish to study- in private schools will only be eligible for scholarships in the following cases:

a) If there are no government schools where they live.
b) If they can prove that they were refused admission to government schools due to lack of space.
c) If they are studying -or wish to study- subjects that are not taught in our country’s government schools.
d) If they can prove that they have a scholarship covering their school fees.
